If you have come here in hopes of a satisfying theme, we will have to disappoint you. There is not even a pretence of a story here, which becomes apparent from the moment you boot the slot and are faced with a red and gold colour scheme, overlaid on top of a fake physical machine user interface. It seems even Pragmatic Play cannot resist the temptation of making something generic and dull from time to time, but you can tell they put in some effort, at the very least.
Triple Dragons is a Chinese-themed video slot that offers players a 3×3 playing field with five fixed paylines, which means gamblers cannot choose to turn some or all paylines off in order to adjust their total stake. Wins are granted by collecting three symbols in adjacent positions from left to right, following one of 5 active paylines. The game only has one special feature, and that is the re-spin until you win bonus.
How to play Triple Dragons
You have gotten the gist of our displeasure from the starting paragraph, and there really is not much more we have to say on the topic. It feels like a hastily put together, lazy cash grab, trying to milk the nostalgia factor for physical machines while also pandering to the Chinese market in the most obnoxious way possible. There are some animations, but they are far from the quality we are used to seeing from Pragmatic Play titles and you can forget interesting background images – the only thing you can see behind the reels is a boring red texture which endlessly repeats to fill up space. One saving grace is the glow between the reels when they spin looks amazing, and we hope the developers implement it in their other slots, too.
Icons include diamonds, hearts, clubs, spades, a blue-golden drum, a red sack full of golden coins, and a ripe peach slightly covered by a lush, green leaf. The Chinese dragon acts as an ordinary symbol on the playing field until a full stack of dragons lands on any of the three reels. At that point, it turns into Wild and triggers the re-spin bonus.
The game has a very high variance, stemming from the absence of other bonuses and the difficulty to land any meaningful scores. Smaller reels and a low number of paylines also contribute to the problem, so it will ultimately boil down to what sort of title you enjoy. If the waiting for a massive jackpot suits you, you will probably like the Pragmatic Play’s release, but if you want gameplay diversity, this is the wrong slot for you.
