To protect the past, we must first travel to the future. It sounds confusing, we know, but we assure you, it is all for a good cause. Set in a distant, cyberpunk world, this Microgaming production has lots of potential. We are treated to a gorgeous backdrop of the city, holographic reels, and some flashy visual effects while we play! But while the graphics look great, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired.
Shogun of Time is a futuristic video slot which offers players a 4×3 playing field with 81 ways to win. Pays are awarded for collecting three or more identical symbols in adjacent positions, from left to right only. There are not any set paylines, so gamblers cannot turn them on and off to adjust their total bet.
The game has two special features that are quite similar to each other. One of them is a re-spin that creates an additional reel for one turn. The other is a free spin that also creates an additional reel, but this one is covered by a Wild. It also lasts until the bonus ends!
How to play Shogun of Time
We do like the bright and colourful visuals, and the sharp contrast between old and new. It helps immerse you, making you think the reels really are holographic. There are additional minor details, like the aim reticule on the spin button, or the slight movement of the Shogun. Nothing ground-breaking, but very easy on the eyes.
Symbols are split into two design categories. The first are rather simplistic playing card royals: 10, J, Q, K and A. They have some decorations, but they are still the same bland stuff we are used to. Far more interesting are the coins, fans, samurai armours and helmet icons. Not only do they look cool, but they also have this Tron-vibe to them with digital lines at the edges.
Shogun of Time is a medium volatility title. It has two bonuses – one of them having a chance of firing when a four-of-a-kind win is formed. The other is rather standard, demanding a certain number of Scatters before launching.
