San Guo Zheng Ba Mobile Slot Review
For many people in the Anglosphere, the War of the Roses is a rather romanticised event. It was a war between two dynasties to lay claim on the England’s throne, a bloody period of civil war that led to loss of countless lives and was so gruesome it would eventually inspire a great deal of stories to be told about it – including the very popular Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. However, China also had its War of the Roses. It officially spanned between 220 to 280 AD and split China into three states, called Cao Wei, Shu Han, and Dong Wu. The period was known as the Three Kingdom and it officially began with the dissolution of the Han dynasty. It was rather violently brought to heel by the Jin dynasty that united China. Unofficially, the period also spanned from 184 to 220 AD, which was marked by infighting between the warlords in various parts of China as the empire began to weaken. Given that the emperor is still alive in this game, we’d say this title is more inclined towards the earlier period.
San Guo Zheng Ba offers gamblers a 5×3 playing field with 50 flexible paylines, allowing you to turn them on and off at will, a feature that’s becoming rarer and rarer as time goes on. Even RTG, which was the last major slot developer that offers this option, slowly began to phase it out, although it seems to have made the cut here. There are several special features. Wilds only appear on the third reel during the base game, while during free spins, they also appear on reels 2, 4 and 5. Wilds also double all wins they are a part of during the extra turns feature. To activate the free spins, gamblers need to collect three or more Scatters. They award 5 free spins and God Spin free games after the extra turns are done, which is an additional bonus on top of the free spins. It’s also possible to retrigger the free spins up to 5x.
How to Play San Guo Zheng Ba
The graphics are top-notch, with minor animations here and there making it seem livelier. The backdrop depicts troops marching on a fortress up in the mountains, no doubt one warlord preparing for war against another – or perhaps one of them has decided that the emperor’s time is up and it is time for a more worthy claimant to take the throne. The symbols depict weapons and armour of the warlords, the four warlords who are vying for power as the crumbling empire falls under their influence, and the empress and emperor. Finally, a large dragon acts as Wild.
On the gameplay side of things, San Guo Zheng Ba plays with a solid focus on the free spins bonus. It’s not very engaging during the base game, unfortunately, and it takes a bit of grinding before free spins start rolling. If you’re a fan of feature hunting, you will no doubt enjoy this game, although it might have benefitted from one more bonus to spice things up.
Jackpots & Progressives
There are no progressive jackpots in this RTG release. Instead, all the big wins come from free spins. You have Wilds doubling all wins, Wilds appearing on the second, third, fourth and fifth reel, two or more Scatters paying a prize, and three or more Scatters retriggering free spins up to 5x. Of course, God Spin free spins reward when collecting Scatter pays.
Bonus Games & Sign-ups
You win three God Spin free spins at the end of regular free spins, with the possibility of winning more by collecting Scatters while the God Spins are active. Depending on how many Scatter pays you collected beforehand, you will win grouped empresses, reel five being entirely Wild, Scatters paying 5x, Wilds multiplying wins by 3x, and finally, reels 4 and 3 being entirely Wild.
