Halloween isn’t a worldwide trend, but given the rise of the internet and American culture in general, just about everyone seems to get in the spooky mood come October. Some people will no doubt enjoy that, others, who aren’t big fans of horror, will likely skip out on the whole thing, and just indulge in chasing after candy and relaxing at home. But while we’re all familiar with zombies and the general undead, China has its own set of beliefs that usually aren’t well explored in Western culture. Fortunately, RTG is here to help out on that topic with their latest release called I, Zombie, which takes place in a Chinese temple where a wise martial arts teacher and his apprentice must fight back against the horde of the undead coming after them.
I, Zombie is a horror themed video slot with a 5×3 playing field and 25 fixed paylines which reward pays from the leftmost reel to the rightmost reel. Gamblers can collect three, four or five Mirror Scatter in order to win 6, 8 or 10 free spins, respectively. During free spins, any additional Scatter will grant extra Wild on the reels. All prizes are doubled if four Scatters activated the bonus or tripled if five Scatters triggered it. Also during the base game, when Wild or Scatter appears, they have a chance of creating two additional Wilds, which fill the other two spots on the reel that created them, increasing your odds of landing a good winning combination.
How to Play I, Zombie
While this RTG release wouldn’t be classified as a graphical powerhouse, it does do a few things we really like when it comes to its visuals. The colour scheme being mostly dominated by purple and red helps the other colours stand out, which helps with the symbols, but also helps give the whole thing this dark, oppressive atmosphere that helps sell in just how dire the situation the two human characters find themselves in. Symbols include playing card icons 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, as well as a golden bell, several zombies rising from their graves, a skilled, young woman and her wise, old sensei fighting back the zombies. The user interface is similar to what RTG may use otherwise. It’s clean and functional, it looks crisp, and everything is no more than two or three screen taps away, which means we’re rather pleased.
The game is focused on its special features, which is a by-product of its medium volatility. While you won’t wait forever to get to the larger wins, they’re also not as huge as they tend to be in higher variance games. But to get to them, you have to get lucky with new Wilds being created or the free spins working out in your favour. Both of these are more than capable of happening, but you won’t see them straight off unless you’re really lucky. If you can, make sure to win the free spins – as they guarantee extra Wilds appearing, and lower the cost of each spin to nothing.

There’s no progressive jackpot in I, Zombie. Instead, the largest win gamblers can get is worth 7,500x the stake, which is an awesome jackpot, and one that we can see a lot of players being tempted into chasing. That said, there’s the downside of us not knowing the RTP for I, Zombie.
