Hotline Mobile Slot Review
The eighties were truly a magical time. Everyone wore brightly coloured outfits, it was the height of Reagan and rock and roll, a culture of casual drug use, beautiful beaches, and the dream of Miami was in everyone’s head. Hotline taps into that period to really bring itself to life, and while it’s not the first slot to do so, it does it beautifully. The kick ass tune in the background is something that we wouldn’t mind as a ringtone and the sense of the game being one whole cop buddy TV show is really well sold. From the start, even the regular NetEnt loading screen is presented as if it’s on an old TV set from the eighties, with an intro fitting to the start of some B rated cop flick. But the backdrop of the famous Miami strip and awesome music are only one half of the experience. The other comes with the gameplay that it offers.
The NetEnt release offers gamblers a 5×3 playing field with 30 fixed paylines. You can play for a small amount of $0.15 per spin, but that will only have a single ‘Hotline’ active. Hotlines are important, because they affect Wilds – allowing them to expand and cover an entire reel and cause a re-spin if they land in one. So, if you want to play with all three reels as Hotlines, your wager triples, allowing you an interesting choice if you want to invest more with the hopes of getting a higher chance of winning big. We can certainly attest to it being useful, but just in case re-spins and expanding Wilds aren’t enough for you, the developers also brought in Scatters and free spins. For the duration of free spins, Wilds that land on a hotline expand as normal, but instead of disappearing when no more re-spins are available, they remain sticky for the duration of the extra turns.
How to Play Hotline
There’s a reason the eighties are and continue to be a favourite of viewers, gamblers and gamers alike – it was just a different, amazing era. It was the peak of American excess, an era where the economy flowed strong and the last decade before the Cold War ended, which brought huge changes along with it. The distinct look also makes it stand out quite visibly, which translates into character design you see in the symbols. Both the villain and the two detectives wear outfits that people simply would not be caught dead in today, and while the jewellery doesn’t really sell the vibe of the era quite as much, it does at least show what our hat-wearing thief has come to steal – and why our heroes are giving chase.
The gameplay is simple mechanically, but quite stellar. The Wilds are quite common and it makes for a good incentive to make you turn on all three hotlines. We honestly wouldn’t recommend playing without having them all up, as the experience just isn’t the same, but if you can’t afford to spend $0.45 for each spin, it is acceptable with just two or one, as well. However, you’ll see less Wilds expanding, which is the real bread and butter of Hotline, as it occurs in both free spins and outside of them.
Jackpots & Progressives
While there’s no progressive jackpot for this NetEnt release, it is a medium volatility slot in which you can win up to 400 times your stake if you get super lucky. As you might imagine, that will require the best option to happen during the free spins, so that sort of jackpot is really saved for the luckiest few among us. Our top score with Hotline was 84 times our wager, which happened after we received four re-spins in a row with lucrative symbols set up to really bring it all home. Far from the highest possible jackpot, but still satisfying.
Bonus Games & Sign-ups
