Batman Begins Mobile Slot Review
Batman is one of those characters that really need no introduction. Even if you’re not a big movie buff, chances are you’ve heard of the caped crusader, especially after a very successful transition from comic books into the mainstream thanks to several movies that really brought the Dark Knight out on his own. In our circle of friends, it’s usually Batman Begins from 2005 that people will cite as their favourite and it’s no surprise that Playtech decided to use it as a flagship to their superhero series. After having a successful string of Classic Batman slots back in 2017, it seems the partnership with Warner Brothers continues into the modern movies starring Christian Bale. And right off the bat, we’re seeing Playtech giving it their all to show they have what it takes to make Batman as awesome as he is on the silver screen.
The game offers a 5×3 playing field with 20 fixed paylines. It is mid volatile in general gameplay, but the real stars of the show are four progressive jackpots that exist in the title. They are activated randomly and can occur on any spin, whether it is winning or not. It opens a small mini-game, during which you click a field of twenty icons, unlocking one of four colours. Green is the Mini, Blue is the Minor, Yellow is the Major, and Red is the Grand progressive jackpot, and you need to unlock four of the same colour to win the corresponding prize. On top of that, this Playtech slot forgoes Scatters in favour of having the middle of the reel act as a hotspot. When certain symbols land there, they fill the meter and transfer you to a different location, with each location having different Wild mechanic on top of the already existing regular Wild and the expanding Batman one.
How to Play Batman Begins
We like the visuals. The slow fall of snow in the backdrop is great, and that’s just to start with. The backdrop changes corresponding to the location switches, so when you move to the Wayne Manor, for example, the snowfall is replaced with a building burning in the background, and so each scene has a unique locale built to it. The symbols and UI don’t change, which is a small nitpick, but it would have been interesting if the colour matched up to the place you were in, especially for the card icons such as 9, 10, J, Q and K. Other icons include characters from the movie, so they don’t really need a recolour.
For gameplay purposes, Batman Begins, in our opinion, shows how to do progressive jackpots right. Despite their presence, there’s still plenty of varied gameplay to enjoy even if you never end up hitting those big prizes. The switching locales impact the way Wilds work, so you essentially have five features wrapped up in one. However, you have no control on which board you stay, or how long you will spend on it, as once the meter fills, the slot forces you to switch instead of giving you the option to stay. It’s good for variety, but if you enjoy one bonus over others, you aren’t given an option to stay and play with that special feature in particular.
Jackpots & Progressives
The game has four progressive jackpots. The Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpots are activated through a point and click mini-game. Each one has a corresponding colour, and picking four of the same colour wins that jackpot. Activating that mini-game is pure random chance, as it can occur on any spin, whether it wins anything or not. Outside of these, you have some alright jackpots, but they don’t really get anywhere close to the level that you can win from the progressive jackpots.
Bonus Games & Sign-ups
The locations you can unlock are as follows.
The Temple is the starting location. In it, you find Flower Wild, which expands in a criss-cross pattern. From the Temple, you can travel to Wayne Manor or the Batcave.
Wayne Manor has Petrol Wilds. These Wild engulf the reel and turn any symbol in their way into another Wild. From here, you can travel to the Arkham Asylum or the Monorail.
The Batcave has Batmobile Wild, which activates a re-spin when it appears, and moves to the left before each re-spin. The re-spins continue until the car disappears from the reels. From here, you can travel to Wayne Manor or the Monorail.
Arkham Asylum has Wild represented by the Bat symbol. This Wild can appear anywhere on the reels, and has a randomly assigned multiplier added to itself when it appears, which can go up to 50x. From here, you can travel to the Monorail or the Batcave.
Monorail has Microwave Wild. Once the Wild lands, it chooses the highest paying symbol that surrounds it, and then transforms several random icons into that symbol as well. From here, you can travel to the Arkham Asylum or the Temple.
