Zynga off to a great start in 2017
After the release of the first quarter earnings report from Zynga, it became clear that its mobile gaming operation made a record revenue in the first three months of 2017. Mobile revenue is up by 19%, while mobile bookings set another record, being 27% higher than in the previous year.
The overall revenue is about $8,000,000 higher than in 2016. Last year, on March 31st, Zynga generated a revenue of $186.7 million, while this year they have a record-breaking revenue of $194.3 million. When talking about the changes in deferred revenue of $13.1 million, bookings also recorded an increase of 14% to $207.4 million.
Even though Zynga stated that the earnings per share came a little lower than expected, the net loss in the first quarter of 2017 is above the expectations, $9.5 million. Zynga also recorded an increase of monthly active users by 5%, while mobile monthly active users also climbed 13% to 63 million. The downside of the report is that they have experienced a decline of web users by 29%.
Taking everything under consideration, Zynga can be proud of its start in 2017, which was clearly stated by Frank Gibeau, chief executive of Zynga, who said that they have delivered a strong quarter and have posted some of the best results in years. The Zynga Poker franchise, which exists for more than a decade, also recorded a highest quarterly mobile performance.
