No More Marvel Slots from 1st April
We are sad to announce that Playtech’s Marvel slots will no longer be available on online gambling sites, starting from 1st April. Playtech has released a note to all of their online gambling websites partners that they need to remove all Marvel-themed video slots from the offer, since their contract with Marvel is to expire on the last day of March.
As you probably know, Disney purchased Marvel Entertainment back in 2009, and because they are “trying to project a more family-friendly image across its entertainment properties”, and are not very fond of gambling, Disney officials have decided to “review” all of their slot machine licensing arrangements.
As a result of such reviews, in 2014, Amaya Gaming had to remove all their Marvel content in Canada, and that will also happen with Playtech this April, so use the time that is left to play Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four or the Avengers, because in the future you will not be able to play your favourite Marvel slots any more.
This is why Playtech signed a deal with Warner Brothers Consumer Products, which owns the rights of DC Comics, so gamers should expect more video slots themed after Batman, Superman and other DC heroes.
Currently, Playtech’s licensees are leading a strong campaign which pushes fans of comic-themed games to new Playtech’s Age of the Gods titles, stating that these new slots offer the same Marvel experience, but with a “godlike look and feel”.
Time will tell whether these new products will be as successful as the Marvel titles, and whether the expiration of the agreement will cause the massive exodus of comic-themed slot fans, which will definitely provoke a hard hit to the financial income of both online and mobile casinos.
