Dragon Shard is a fantasy-themed release that has two rival factions competing over magical crystals. It is played on a 5×5 board with 40 fixed paylines, which can pay either left to right or both ways. This can be achieved by activating the Win Booster on the left side of the reels. Very useful, but it does double your total stake so long as it’s active.
The boost also comes with another advantage: improved mystery symbols. These mystery icons appear during free spins in select mystery reels. Also, certain symbols can appear stacked on the board! Most will only occupy two spaces, but the Ice King and Fire Queen can cover the entirety of their reels!
How to Play Dragon Shard
Credit where it’s due, these might be some of the best graphics Microgaming have delivered recently. The background image, while static, is very captivating! You get the sense of being in some abandoned swamp, which was once teeming with life. Now, all that’s left are the royals and their dragons and all icons in this category have fantastic animations!
But while the animations are stellar, the actual symbols are a mixed bag. The Queen, King, and their respective dragons look amazing, as expected. The crystal Dragon Shard looks good, but it can’t quite match up with the previous four. And then you have four playing card icons: hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs, which don’t fit the theme at all.
In terms of volatility, this game has a medium variance, which we’re okay with. It doesn’t have the thrills of playing high volatility and winning big, but it also lacks its pitfalls! The special features also hit more frequently, making it easier to score its top prize and come out ahead!

Sadly, there’s no progressive jackpot of any sort to look forward to. Fortunately, there’s the fixed jackpot worth 800x your total stake! The slot has an RTP of 96.77% with Win Booster active.
