The Champions Mobile Slot Review
The football craze may have subsided now, but it never truly dies. The sport has persisted throughout the ages despite its many rivals and to this day remains one of the favourites for many across the globe. And when the time comes for the best in the world to clash, to represent their countries and bring home the coveted world cup, that enjoyment boils over into an infectious excitement. Pragmatic Play clearly also decided to cash in on the fun, bringing forward their own title called The Champions. It focuses on the football championship and the many nations playing in it.
The Champions offers gamblers a 5×3 playing field with 25 fixed paylines, which only pay left to right. The main feature is the Momentum Progressive feature which is activated when a football lands in the targeted position determined by the player. You can tap the screen on the reel position to target it and if a football lands there, the feature triggers. You play 10 free spins and before each, you target a spot on the reels like before. If a ball lands there, your multiplier increases by two, reaching a maximum of level 11 with 20x. When the ball lands in the target spot, the number of free spins is reset to ten. There’s no limit how many times the spins can be reset. Penalty Shots is the second feature available to gamblers, activated when they collect three Scatters in the second, third and fourth reel at the same time. Players are granted five penalty shots they need to aim into the goals. Your reward increases the more goals you score, ranging from 5x for just one goal, to 100x for all five.
How to play The Champions
Visually speaking, this isn’t the best thing Pragmatic Play put out. Keep in mind, there’s little that’s at fault here – all the symbols are very clearly drawn, the reels are shaped like a goal, which makes sense given the mechanic of scoring goals in both the special features. But there’s really not much in terms of animations to draw our fancy – the goalkeeper seems like a good candidate, but it can feel a touch janky at times. That said, the user interface is quite clean and well done, making it very easy for gamblers to control their wagers, see all relevant information, and spin to their heart’s content.
On the gameplay side of things, all the interesting stuff is off-loaded into the special features. The game sports a medium variance, which means the features aren’t nearly as difficult to activate as in some other bonuses, but for the most part, you’ll be going through a lot of spins with very small wins or no wins at all, with nothing to spice things up except maybe occasional Wild. It makes the moments afterwards more memorable, certainly, but it can be boring if you’re not the patient type.
Jackpots & Progressives
While one of the bonuses is progressive, there’s no progressive jackpot awaiting you here. You do have a maximum win of 1,364x the stake for the luckiest gamblers, awarded when the largest win lands while the 20x multiplier from the special feature is activated. The RTP sits at 96.51%, which is above average for video slots. Most of the jackpots will come from the Momentum Progressive feature, as the multiplier lends itself to creating some really amazing scores. Penalty Shots can bring in some decent wins, but compared to the heights Momentum can reach, it’s not even close.
