It’s easy to forget just how big the country of India is. It’s second place only to China, with its own rich history and culture that both unites it and divides it. Bollywood Story is a NetEnt’s take on things – a good, old fashioned romance story set in India. The game offers gamblers a 5×3 playing field with 9 fixed paylines. You have free spins, which are activated by collecting three or more Scatters, represented by blue gems. Three, four or five Scatters will reward 10, 20 or 30 free spins, respectively, and it is possible to retrigger the feature while its active, adding even more extra turns. The real jewel, however, is the Floating Wilds mechanic. During every spin in normal gameplay, Floating Wilds will appear on top of anywhere between two to four symbols, making them Wild. This number goes up to between three and six during free spins.
How to Play Bollywood Story
While all the symbols look cool and the backdrop is really well done, it’s not the greatest visuals we’ve seen in a NetEnt title – but even that is above average, if we’re being honest. If there’s one developer whose artists have yet to fail us, it’s NetEnt. What particularly floored us was the presence of Floating Wilds – how they transform into butterflies and fly to a different part of the reel. They’re also really the only gorgeous animation we see – you have a cool screen transition when you activate the free spins bonus, but there’s really not that much going on there as far as animations go.
What about gameplay? Floating Wilds don’t make as much of an impact as we’d have liked them to. The feature sounds great on paper and during free spins, it can really come through as a clutch to secure some amazing wins – but during normal gameplay, we don’t see it making that big of a difference. Part of it is due to the fact you only have 9 paylines, which somewhat negates the advantage of having two or more Wilds around at all times. The second part is that it was undoubtedly calculated into the 96.1% RTP, and they chose to go with the beefy bonus wins rather than a constant stream of smaller wins that pile up over time.
Jackpots & Progressives
While there’s no progressive jackpot lurking around, you can expect some good wins during the free spins feature. By itself, it doesn’t really do much, but thanks to the floating Wilds, it can really shine on through in some situations. The fact you have at least three guaranteed at all times makes wins more frequent. Free spins can be a bit hit or miss however – there’s no guarantee you haven’t won a dud, as we’ve had three occasions where the feature win was less than 15x.
