The game has a wide variety of symbols out to play. You will find J, Q, K and A somewhat uninspiring, but they share the grid with icons that are a lot more fitting to the universe, such as the chunk of green rock known as kryptonite, Superman’s glasses, General Zod, Ursa, Non, Louis Lane and Superman himself.
The iconic symbol of our red-caped hero is used to represent Wilds on the reels. They can act as a replacement for all icon except the Bonus symbol, and are also the largest single win you can get in normal gameplay. Also, randomly during the main game, Superman can fly across the grid and replace a certain number of symbols into Wilds.
Forgoing Scatters in favor of a Bonus icon, Playtech has given them the logo of the iconic Daily Planet news agency. They can only appear on the first, third and fifth reel, and while they have no cash benefit on their own, they are used to trigger one of the five different special features. This can only occur in the main game.
How to Play Superman II
Superman II uses clearly recognizable faces and symbols from the movie to build familiarity, and all of those things combine with a colorful, bright background to sell the feeling of flying across Metropolis as Christopher Reeve did in the movie. However, the animations felt somewhat lackluster, which we feel might have helped make the slot feel a bit less static.
It feels like Playtech decided to go safe on this one, as with 5 reels and 25 paylines, and a wager that ranges between $0.25 up to $25, it relies more on the Superman brand to carry it rather than anything new or exciting that it tries to do. However, to combat the relative boredom of spinning reels, the game uses its special features and the promise of a progressive jackpot.
Jackpots & Progressives
Actually, make that four different progressive jackpots, because Superman II wants you to feel like you’re on the cusp of winning. There is no specific icon that you need to appear to award any of them, instead, the slot rewards you for spinning and triggers the extra game randomly. The odds of activating it are increased if you play on higher bet levels.
Once inside, you have twenty jackpot symbols hidden on the screen. Clicking on one of them will reveal one particular color that’s hidden there, and your job is to collect all the same colors. The jackpot you get will depend on which set of colors you complete first, and the game will randomly pick for you if you decide not to do anything.

There are five different special features hidden beneath the Bonus symbol, which are activated when it appears on the first, third and fifth reel at the same time.
Battle for Metropolis takes place atop the rooftops of the city, in which you pick different shields. Each shield has a cash prize, a kryptonite shard that will stop the next collect icon, a ray x symbol that will grant you the top prize, and a collect icon that will end the extra round and grant you the amount of money you have won.
Phantom Zone can theoretically go on forever, as it randomly turns 2×2 zones on the grid into Wilds. Each spin will also give you a random item, which can increase the multiplier, delay the ending symbol, or give you an icon that will end the free spins.
Skyline Flight awards you 10 bonus games. Superman, when he appears on the third reel, will freeze the counter, and each time he occupies the third reel after that will increase the multiplier by one, up to a maximum of 5x. The villain can appear on the third reel as well, and unfreeze the counter.
X-Ray vision grants you 15 free spins, and if it appears anywhere on the grid after that, it turns into a Wild. It also adds additional Wilds on reels 2 and 4.
Louis and Clark is the same type of gameplay as the jackpot game. You keep picking shields until you fill up one of the four meters, which awards you a cash prize.
